FAQ
Common questions
Answers compiled from recent newsletter issues, meeting reports, and the club's public web presence. Fees, themes, and volunteer openings change—always confirm details in the latest Oklahoma Squeezins or by email.
When and where does the Oklahoma Accordion Club meet?
Regular meetings are on the second Sunday of each month, typically 3:30–5:30 p.m. Central Time, at Messiah Lutheran Church on the southeast corner of NW Expressway and Portland Avenue in Oklahoma City (3600 NW Expressway).
The newsletter often reminds visitors to use the south entrance—there is a covered portico at that door if the weather is poor. Follow signs or the sound of accordions toward the meeting room.
Do visitors have to pay to attend?
No. Visitors are welcome at every meeting at no charge. Membership dues are for those who choose to formally join and support the club.
How much does membership cost?
Recent newsletters list dues as $20 per year for an individual plus $10 for a family add-on. Lifetime memberships have also been mentioned as an option.
Exact amounts and timing (often renewed starting in January) can change—confirm in the current issue of The Oklahoma Squeezins, or email the club at okaccordionclub@gmail.com.
Can I join a meeting remotely?
Yes. If you cannot attend in person, the club has offered Zoom using the same meeting link published in the newsletter (audio quality has been improving over time).
How do I contact the club?
For meeting questions, visitors, dues, and general club business, email okaccordionclub@gmail.com. Officer emails appear in the newsletter as well.
The public website is okaccordion.club; meeting dates also appear on the shared Google Calendar.
What is The Oklahoma Squeezins?
It is the Oklahoma Accordion Club's monthly newsletter—meeting reminders, officer listings, themed meetup notes, regional accordion news, and birthday shout-outs.
What happens at a typical meeting?
Newsletter meeting reports mention opening with the Pledge of Allegiance and sometimes singing “America the Beautiful,” performances by members and guests, sing-alongs (sometimes with lyrics projected), snacks, occasional raffles or charity drives, and informal jamming before or after the formal program.
Themes vary by month—recent examples in the newsletter included Hawaiian night, Valentine's “love” music, St. Patrick's Irish tunes, and a pizza social.
Should I bring anything?
Bring your accordion if you play, or come just to listen. Snacks to share are welcome when announced. The club encourages inviting a friend.
I’m new to accordion—any advice on getting started?
A recent president's column summarized founder Dick Albreski's guidance: treat your first instrument like a rental with an option to buy, and work with a teacher so you don't develop bad habits.
For lessons or repairs, email okaccordionclub@gmail.com so the club can connect you with local help.
Where can I find free accordion music online?
The newsletter regularly points members to Don Quattrocchi's site (donquattrocchi.com) and 8notes' accordion section for charts and ideas.
Does the club connect to national or regional accordion events?
Yes. Members hear about the National Accordion Association (NAA) and its conference, Great IDEAS (digital accordion symposium at gr8ideas.org), ATG festivals, and other festivals through newsletter blurbs—dates and registration change yearly, so follow links from the latest issue or accordions.com. Questions? Email okaccordionclub@gmail.com.
How do birthdays get listed in the newsletter?
Birthdays come from the membership application when members choose to share them. If yours is missing, use the coordinator email printed in recent issues—or write the club at okaccordionclub@gmail.com and ask to be pointed to the right person.
Are volunteer roles available?
The club is volunteer-run. Recent newsletters have listed openings such as treasurer, Zoom tech, historian, librarian, and newsletter editor—ask at a meeting or email okaccordionclub@gmail.com if you want to help.
Where are meeting photos?
Albums are often posted as Google Photos links; the legacy gallery page on okaccordion.club lists folders by month when available.
